Dal Makhani is one of the most celebrated dishes in Punjabi cuisine, and at Swagat Restaurant in Winnipeg, we prepare it using traditional methods that have been passed down through generations. Whole black lentils (urad dal) and kidney beans (rajma) are soaked overnight and then slow-cooked for hours.
The dal is then finished with generous amounts of butter, fresh cream, and a blend of spices including ginger, garlic, and garam masala. The result is an incredibly rich, creamy, and satisfying dish that pairs perfectly with naan bread or steamed rice. It's vegetarian comfort food at its finest.
